Carla Fenves grew up in Dallas, Texas. She graduated with honors from Stanford University in 2006. She was ordained as a Reform rabbi from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2011 as a Wexner Graduate Fellow and completed an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy at Long Island University in 2022. She served as a congregational rabbi at Congregation Emanu-El in San Francisco, California for 9 years.

She and her family live in El Paso, TX where her husband US Army Chaplain David Frommer serves at Fort Bliss. She sees clients in her private counseling practice.
